A BRIEF LOOK AT OUR HISTORY

The PILANA brand has a rich history, whose first chapters began in Hulín back in 1934. Today, PILANA SB a.s. continues its tool production in Zborovice, where its manufacturing activities have developed since 1947 on the premises of a former sugar factory.

For over more than 90 years we have specialised in the production of a wide range of tools for a variety of uses. We started with the production of circular saw blades for wood and bodies for the production of circular saws. Over time, we expanded our portfolio to include gang saw blades and wide band saw blades for wood cutting.

1934: Establishment of the PILANA brand
Josef Studeník, a talented inventor and entrepreneur, founded a company called “První moravská továrna na pily a nástroje” (The First Moravian Saw and Tool Factory), where he manufactured and repaired carpentry tools. In the same year he also started original production of hack saw blades and band saws.

Establishment of one of the first sugar mills in Moravia at the location of the present-day PILANA plant in Zborovice. The sugar factory was closed in 1930.

Establishment of the Pilana Zborovice company, transfer of sawmill production from other parts of Czechoslovakia.
1958
1958
In 1958, Pilana Hulín and its operation in Zborovice were incorporated into the state-owned enterprise named Nářadí Praha. The production programme expanded to include hacksaws, head saws and double-handed saws.
1965
1965
In the 1960s and 1970s, demand grew significantly. Pilana expanded its portfolio and modernised its production process as a result of that.
Its products received their first awards: gold medals at the International Engineering Fair in Brno. In that period, the company began exporting goods to certain European countries.

The production of steel centres for diamond saw blades for the Hulín plant began, presses for CV saw blades were installed, data entry of processing procedures into a central computer was initiated, and in 1990, the company’s original name, PILANA, was restored

1998
PILANA TOOLS SAW BODIES spol. s.r.o. limited liability company was founded and became the first Czech company pioneering the use of laser technology. In 1990s, Pilana first entered foreign markets. This was to expand its reach and respond more quickly to market needs.

The company introduced a new technology for the production of band saw blades and invested in new machinery.

A change in visual identity.
In this period Pilana modernised its identity and changed its logo.

In 2014, we opened a new office building – a significant step in our company’s evolution that has enabled us to better serve our employees and customers.

The split of PILANA Saw Bodies a.s. and the establishment of PILANA SB a.s

In 2024, we celebrated 90 years since our company foundation. This more than nine-decade-long presence on the market gives us a deep understanding of our customers’ needs while serving as a solid foundation for our continuous innovation and the high quality and reliability of our products.

With this, we have left a significant mark not only in the history of our company, but also in the tool industry. We are proud of our heritage while looking forward to the challenges and opportunities the future will bring.
